“A house with no fireplace is a house without a heart.” –Gladys Taber
This month’s winter chill (yes – Winter has FINALLY arrived in Southern Louisiana!) reminds us that there’s nothing quite like cozying up to the fireplace this time of year. We just naturally gravitate to our fireplaces to soak up the flames and enjoy sweet fellowship, warmth, comfort, and lots of good cheer.
There’s no need for your fireplace to hibernate after the holidays. If taking the Christmas decorations down makes your fireplace feel a bit neglected – no worries! Now is the perfect time to re-imagine your fireplace styling and give it a fresh look for 2022. House Dressings has all the feels (and tips!) to make your fireplace look well-loved again.
Reach “new heats” with our favorite fireplace styling tips for 2022:
Start with the art: Why have just one?! Overlapping two or three pieces of artwork will not only give depth but really make your mantel pop. Lean the art against the wall using pieces in varying heights and widths to give your mantel that sophisticated layered look. Art should play well with others – select hues that complement other décor accents throughout the room.
Does your fireplace make you yawn? Have we got an energy boost for you! Try adding molding to the fireplace wall. The fireplace is the room’s key focal point, so make it the room’s center of attention with trim that says “starring role”!
Want to really make the sparks fly? We LOVE LOVE black wrought-iron candle holders on the mantel. Our favorites include a set of three slender holders in graduated sizes. Grouping items in odd numbers work best for custom built-ins, including the mantel.
Cuddling up to a cozy fire beckons all the right ingredients – including baskets on the hearth filled with warm throws and soft furs. Add the hot cocoa and fuzzy socks and your fireplace recipe is ready for baking success!
For our last tip, think tall and green (no – not the scary monster kind!): How about filling a tall neutral or clear glass vase (at least 18”) with elegant green stems or branches such as Bells of Ireland, Gingko branches, Eucalyptus, or even Pampas Grass. Go asymmetric – we’re big fans of just one statement vase mixed with other smaller accents to bring added interest to your mantel. And remember – simplicity rules!
